As a follow up to the Joint Communique' issued during His Majesty's visit to New Delhi from February 7-12th, 2007, the Liaison Office in Phuentsholing has been upgraded to Consulate General of India. On 17th February 2007 at a reception hosted in Phuentsholing, Ambassador Sudhir Vyas announced upgradation of Liaison Office. Reception was attended by over 120 people including senior officials of the Royal Government of Bhutan, members of India House Club and representatives of Indian and Bhutanese business communities.

Mr.S.N.Tyagi assumed responsibilities as the Consul General of India, Phuentsholing.
