Visit of Lyonchhen Jigmi Y. Thinley, Prime Minister of Bhutan to India


Lyonchhen Jigmi Y. Thinley, Prime Minister of Bhutan visited New Delhi and delivered the 4th Professor Hiren Mukherjee Memorial Lecture on “Gross National Happiness (GNH): A holistic paradigm for sustainable well-being” at the Cultural Hall of Parliament, New Delhi on 20 December 2011. Prime Minister Thinley visited Kolkata from 30 Sept-01 October 2011 on his way back from UNGA at New York and Japan to attend the 114th Annual General Meeting of the Mahabodhi Society. He met the Governor and Chief Minister of West Bengal. Lyonchhen earlier visited Bodh gaya, Bihar from 24-29 September 2010 for the 13th Annual General Meeting of the Mahabodhi Society during which he took over the Presidentship of the Society from the President of Sri Lanka. On the Invitation of the Prime Minister of the Republic of India, Dr. Manmohan singh, Prime Minister Thinley visited India from 28 June-3 July 2009. The Prime Minister of Bhutan was the first head of Government to visit India during the present term of the UPA government.
