ITEC Day 2016 was celebrated at India House on September 21, 2016.

Lyonpo Norbu Wangchuk, Minister of Education, who is an ITEC Alumni, was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

More than 300 guests including ITEC Alumni, senior dignitaries and officials from various Ministries attended the function. A few of them shared their experiences in India with the gathering and highlighted the benefits of the courses they had attended. Teachers and students of Jigme Namgyel Lower Secondary School presented a colourful cultural programme and enthralled the audience with their performance.

Under this flagship scheme of the Government of India, training is imparted to more than 160 partner countries including Bhutan. 47 Training Institutes offer 280 courses in diverse fields ranging from IT, public administration to election management, SME, entrepreneurship, rural development, parliamentary affairs, renewable energy to name a few. All the training programmes are conducted in prestigious Institutes in India. This year Bhutan has been allotted 100 additional ITEC slots, i.e. 300 slots under ITEC and 60 slots under Technical Cooperation Scheme(TCS) of Colombo Plan.

In the past four years more than 1000 Bhutanese candidates from Government, Semi-Government and Private Sector have availed and benefitted from the above training courses.
