The 68th Republic Day of India was observed with a ceremonial function in the morning of 26th January, 2017 at the Embassy Residence, Thimphu. The National Flag was unfurled by Ambassador Shri Jaideep Sarkar, followed by singing of the National Anthem by attendees. Indian patriotic songs were presented the first time on this occasion by the Bhutanese students of Nehru Wangchuk Cultural Centre. The Ambassador read out the President’s Address to the Nation. Thereafter he inspected the Guard of Honour presented by the contingent of the Indian Military Training Team (Imtrat) in Bhutan.
Dasho Ugyen K. Namgyel, Gyalpoi Zimpon to HM the King, presented scarf to the Ambassador on behalf of the Royal Government. Zimpon along with the Cabinet Secretary and the Acting Foreign Secretary represented RGoB in the ceremony.
The flag hoisting ceremony was attended by the officers and other ranks of the Indian Military Training Team, DANTAK, Indians on deputation with the Royal Bhutanese Government, Representatives from Public Sector Units and other members of the local Indian community. Over 300 members of the Indian community were present at the ceremony.
To mark the occasion, the Embassy is organizing a cultural event at Clock Tower, Thimphu city from 1600-1700 hrs today by “SKY BAND” troupe from India.
