Under Graduate and Post Graduate Scholarship Schemes
Government of India (GoI) provides several scholarships each year at undergraduate level to deserving Bhutanese students in different professional streams such as MBBS, Engineering, LLB, B.Sc (Nursing), B.Sc (Agriculture), BDS etc. All expenses such as tuition fees, book allowance, travelling allowance, medical fees and living allowance incurred under this Scheme are borne by Government of India. The Scholarship is awarded by Government of India on the advice of Department of Adult and Higher Education(DAHE), Ministry of Education, RGoB, based on the merit ranking of the student in Class XII. DAHE is the nodal agencyfor nomination of students for this scheme. Under the 11th Five Year Plan of Bhutan every year 90 Bhutanese students are nominated and placed in reputed academic institutions in India for undertaking undergraduate courses. In the current academic year (2015-16) 90 Bhutanese students have already been selected under this scheme and most of them are in the process of settling down in institutions in India.
Government of India also provides several Post Graduate Scholarships each year to deserving Bhutanese students in their chosen stream of studies. Royal Civil Service Commission, RGOB is the nodal agency for nomination of students under this scheme. In the 11th Five Year Plan of Bhutan 191 slots for ex-country long term training was projected, out of which 135 Bhutanese students selected by RCSC are already undertaking Post Graduate studies in India. All the 135 students were placed in reputed academic institutions in India in the academic year 2014-15. In the current academic year ( 2015-16) 27 candidates have been selected to undertake post-graduate studies in India. In addition to the Post Graduate Scholarships GoI is also providing short term training programmes to the in-service candidates nominated by RCSC in various Institutes in India and Bhutan. 7777 short term slots have been projected in the XIth Five Year Plan which are inclusive of 5346 in-country and 2431 ex-country training slots. 1947 short term slots have been utilized in the Academic year 2014-15.
Till date, in the 10th Five Year Plan and 11th Five Year Plan of Bhutan, more than 1000 Bhutanese students have availed of GoI Scholarships under the Undergraduate and Post-graduate schemes.
